Surgery......psych.

Followed up with the surgeon and Aetna yesterday.  What a comedy of errors.

Turns out when the appeal was submitted, the lady didn't include all of the necessary medical codes.  Therefore, Troy's surgery was only partially approved.  They can open him up, remove the disks, decompress the spine, fix the facet joints, and something else I can't spell.  This is all great news!

Except that they didn't approve the fusion to stabilize the spine after removing all of the other stuff.

Oh, and they can't "close him up" until they get that code too.

We are holding out for the entire surgery.....they have to resubmit to Aetna.

Seriously?  What now?

Megan is officially a "techie".  She was able to connect a printer, install the drivers, and make this thing work ALL BY HERSELF!

Whew...what a week!

So this past week was crazy!  Crazy in a good way!  Several important things happened.

1.  Troy's surgery was approved by Aetna!!!  This means the surgeon can schedule the surgery as soon as they have the approval letter in hand.  As of Friday, this important letter is in no one's hand.  We'll post as soon as the surgery is scheduled.

2.  Betsy interviewed for, and was approved, for the educational diagnostician program.  This is a one year program that runs concurrently with my diagnostician internship.  In Texas, this is the equivalent of a school psychologist.  Courses start 6/4.  My next step is interviewing/finalizing terms of internship with my current district.

We are both excited about the changes in store!

Snow Day....cancelled

As promised, I am writing to share my random thoughts.

Today should have been a snow day.

It snowed last night....enough to cover the ground.  Why, then, did it melt off before school started?

Since moving here we have been able to count on at LEAST two snow days a year.  This year nada, nothing, zilch, zero.  Last year we had 6 snow days.

Please pray for snow.  A day off would be a nice treat!

Thanks!

Zombie Apocalypse

I haven't blogged in a long time....mostly because I feel like it's the same old same old.  I have decided instead to blog about random stuff that always seems to float in my head and simple things that are going on.

This morning, as I blog, Megan and Troy are in the kitchen cooking breakfast.  It's freezing cold outside; nice and warm in here.  I'm listening in their conversation as they discuss a potential Zombie Apocalypse, our family emergency plan, and what they would each do to survive.  It reminds me that the new season of "Walking Dead" is tonight! Oh, and if zombies attack, I highly recommend you come and hang with us---their survival plan is stellar!

So much has been going on--big things and little things.  The big event is that we are moving next month to a 3 bedroom, single level apartment.  We are excited not to do yardwork, no maintenance, and simplifying.  Megan is looking forward to the "community feeling" we get from living in an apartment.  Troy and I tried to explain that apartment living can be loud---and community feeling is hearing your neighbor's toilet flush!  Of course, we haven't lived in apartments in 20 years....so maybe that has changed.   Certainly the amenities have changed---this place has a cinema room, 2 pools, jacuzzis, exercise room, wood floors, granite counters, and upgraded fixtures.  Those friends and family who were around when we lived in El Diablo apartments in Tempe will be happy to know this new place is totally better than that place!

School continues to go well for Megan, Steven, and I.  Troy's work continues to be a challenge facing bureaucracy uphill every day.  But, that's probably the most predictible area in our lives:)  We continue to wait for the insurance approval for Troy's surgery.  Megan's bleeding episodes are well controlled for now.

As part of our simplying plan, we have gotten rid of a lot of CRAP!  Yesterday we had a garage sale aka crap sale.  It is amazing what people will buy!  Now that the garage sale is over, the garage is pretty empty and we can start packing the house stuff that will go into storage.  I love to putter around doing stuff so this will be good for me:)

We love and miss you all!
